Google has just charged Sonos with yet another lawsuit over patent issues regarding its wireless charging. Sonos has been in a longstanding war with Google over different patents, and although the company won the first game, Google has launched a counterattack.
The War Between Google and Sonos
According to the story by Android Republic, Sonos has been a longtime player in the audio business for numerous years and already has enough patents in order to protect its products. The patents they owned reportedly resulted in a war against Google, one of the largest companies in the world.
The war reportedly started with Sonos "following the operation of Google Home." The company reportedly won the first game, which resulted in Google having to change the way Google Homes connect with one another.
Google Decides to Launch Counterattack Regarding Infringement of Seven Patents
Google, however, has decided to launch a counterattack, as detailed in the Court House News, with a lawsuit filed against the infringement of seven patents, one of them being the wireless speaker charging system.
As stated, Sonos sued Google for infringement regarding one of its patents following Google Home's system and how it connected with multiple devices. The company was able to win the lawsuit, which resulted in Google having to design a new system.
Nest Division Suffered Despite the New System
The new system had already been rolled out, but it did not stop the speaker experience of the Nest division to get worse. As confirmed by The Verge, Google is now taking the initiative and filed two lawsuits against Sonos.
As per Google, Sonos infringed seven of its patents regarding smart speakers. The patents that were infringed included how to detect speech when there are numerous speakers around along with fast charging the Sonos roam.
The Story of How Google and Sonos Once Worked Together
The patents reportedly related to voice detection systems that were being used by Sonos in order to detect certain keywords with the speaker system. Within the case, the system detects the keywords and decides which speaker is responsible for responding.
As detailed in the Court House News, the tech giant announced its partnership with Sonos back in 2013 in order to help its home speaker system work well with Google Play Music. In 2016, Sonos once again asked for support from Google in getting its speaker to integrate with the voice-activated Google Assistance.

Google Claims Sonos Took Advantage of Them Helping the Company
Just two years ago, Sonos first sued Google for using the partnership to be able to peek at its technology and used it to launch its own smart speaker called the Chromecast Audio and the later Google home.
The lawsuit was filed at a Los Angeles federal court and now, Google is claiming that Sonos took advantage of Google helping the company to improve its products and used technology from them without permission when it came to "wireless charging and voice control features."
