In Mark Gurman's latest Power On newsletter for Bloomberg, he talked about Apple's plans for the Mac Mini with M2 and M2 Pro chips, as the tech giant is still readying the launch of the product.
Apple's Mac Mini and M2 Pro
According to Bloomberg, Gurman says Apple had been working on an M1 Pro version of the Mac mini, which will launch in late 2022 or by early 2023.
Gurman said that Apple fans can expect a Mac Mini refresh to include both M2 and M2 Pro options and that the devices will not be getting any major redesign in the near term.
According to 9to5Mac's report, Apple is developing two new versions of the Mac mini. One will have the M2 chip and the other one with the M2 Pro.
The new Mac Mini, which has a codename of J472, will be powered by the M2 chip. The M2 Pro Max mini, on the other hand, has a codename of J472 and will feature eight performance cores, and four efficient cores CPU.
Apple also has no plans to release a version with the M2 Max or Ultra chips for the Mac Mini, which will be saved for the Mac Pro, according to 9to5Mac.
Regarding the different M2 chips, Gurman thinks that the Mac Studio could be short-lived product since he does not seem "purpose of having both a Mac Studio and Mac Pro, since they can't the same and appeal to the same group of users.
Also, as previously reported by Bloomberg, Apple fans can also expect a new M2 Pro and M2 Max MacBook Pro as soon as mid-2022, although these computers could be delayed until early 2023.
Apple's M2 Max MacBook Pro
According to MacRumors, Apple is developing new versions of the MacBook Pro models, with one being 14-inch and the other being 16-inch.
So far, what is known about the laptops is that they will get M2 Pro and M2 Max chips that will bring notable performance improvements.
There are not much design changes for the updated 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models. Apple has updated the look with the 2021 version of the M1 Pro and M1 Max machines, and the tech giant usually uses the same design for years now.
The tech giant is still using an aluminum unibody design, but the shape was changed to be flatter and less curved at the bottom.
The laptops include an all-black keyboard, a massive Force Touch Trackpad, and two speaker grilles at the side of the keyboard.
MacBook's current models have mini-LED displays with ProMotion technology, slim 3.5mm bezels at the top and bottom of the display, and a notch that has the 1080p webcam.
Though there are no design changes, there will be internal updates with Apple rumored to be planning to use M2 Pro and M2 Max chips in the latest MacBook Pro models.
According to Gurman, the M2 Max chip will have up to 12-core CPU, up from the 10-core CPU in the M1 Max, together with up to a 38-core GPU from the current 32-core CPU.
