Sky, one of the largest pay-TV broadcasters, just announced the launch of a brand new offer that allows the broadband service to be in their consumers' homes without paying a penny.
Sky Offers Free Service
According to Express.Co, the satellite TV's free internet incentive includes Sky's Superfast service, which offers a speed of around 60Mbps.
Although it is not the fastest speed that Sky has, it is still plenty fast enough to stream your favorite movies and TV shows on streaming services like Netflix, HBOMax, Disney+, and Zoom calls. You can also surf the web, and it should be able to cover the average family usage.
The free access to the service will last for the first three months of the 18-month contract with Sky. Once the free three months expire, anyone signing up for the plan will have to pay $37 to cover the remaining 15 months, according to Forbes.
For customers that wish to get the Gigafast service of Sky, the remaining 15 months will cost them around $66. This will allow people to stream movies and TV shows, surf the net, and even play games on their phone or PC.
Even though there is a fee to pay after the trial period, it is still a good deal from Sky. Its rival, Virgin Media, charges $40 per month for its 50Mbps service, and BT customers pay up to $36 for the same speed. That makes both of Sky's rivals more expensive over an 18-month term.
Sky, Virgin Media, and BT all offer their broadband services across massive parts of the UK. Still, it is worth remembering that there are lots of smaller suppliers not popping up all over the country, and some of them are offering better and cheaper prices.
Community Fibre, which supplies thousands of people in London, has slashed the price of its 1Gbps speeds to its lowest ever. This means you can get those downloads for only $30 per month.
Meanwhile, Hyperoptic is offering 1GB broadband for $36 per month, and other ISPs, like Toob, are also dishing out 900Mbps speeds for only $30.
Service Interruption
Amid the amazing deal Sky offers its customers, the company is having issues with its service.
According to Daily Record UK, West Lothian Sky broadband customers were without internet connection on Aug. 1 after an issue with the network.
Sky confirmed that its customers in Bathgate, Armadale, Fauldhouse, Shotts, Harthill, Stoneyburn, and Whitburn were all left without broadband connection on Monday, Aug. 1, for hours.
The frustrated customers took their dismay on social media and tried to fund what was happening.
Some customers pointed out a fiber outage in Scotland Central Belt, and those working from home said they couldn't get online access at all. Some customers tried to restart their router, but nothing happened.
A spokesperson for Sky confirmed there had been an issue, but the broadband company had fixed it on the morning of Tuesday, Aug. 2.
