Minecraft to Maintain Chat Reporting and Moderation Tool Despite Controversy

Mojang Will be Continuing to Add the Chat Reporting and Moderation Tool

According to the story by Niche Gamer, the chat reporting and moderation tool was recently introduced by Mojang was just recently introduced. Although the features are already common for different online games, it wasn't that well received by the Minecraft community.

The feature is often used to combat harassment as well as different poor behavior. One of the largest issues with the new change is that it can expand into third-party servers as well.

Fans Describe the New Tool with Backlash

The expansion includes numerous rules, which also include some of them that are laxer regarding the content and words that are being used. A certain Redditor who is known to host a server said that this particular system can be abused.

The feature has reportedly led to bans by those that do not have an understanding of the context of the tool within the servers. In response to the backlash, however, the company announced that they do not have plans to back off.

The Game's Community Manager Acknowledged the Feedback but Said Minecraft will Not Step Back

This means despite the widespread backlash, Mojang will not be removing its new moderation features. The new information will reportedly come across as off-putting for a lot of Minecraft fans.

MojangMeesh, a community manager, noted in a comment that they appreciate the feedback from the gamers. This, however, does not mean that the feedback will be able to change the different design principles of the company.

New Feature Adds Other Changes Aside from Just Chat Reporting and Moderation

The changes do not include the upcoming reporting system. Although it is understandable that there has to be moderation within Minecraft, with a lot of kid gamers that use third-party servers, this would be a massive overstep.

An article by PC Invasion noted that a lot of players are unhappy due to believing that they should be able to self-moderate the servers that they pay in order for them to host. The new feature also includes an allay duplication, sculk catalysts tweaks, as well as some other improvements to the chat window in-game.
