Sina Corporation is a Chinese tech firm that operates four online platforms. These include Sina Weibo, Sina Online, Sinanet, and Sina Mobile.

As of writing, Taiwan residents can still access the mainland website version of Weibo. But why did the Chinese internet service provider decide to do this?

According to the South China Morning Post's latest report, a Sina Corporation representative confirmed that they closed their online platforms as part of their "company strategy."

However, they didn't confirm what their new strategy was for. As of press time, experts stated that it might be linked to the ongoing geopolitical issues happening in the country.

Recently, the U.S. government confirmed that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi would arrive in Taiwan. An anonymous senior Taiwanese official said that Pelosi would spend the night during her visit.

Because of this, the topic of Pelosi's visit became viral on Weibo.

Business Insider reported that the topic hashtag "Blinken says Pelosi could visit Taiwan" already garnered more than 600 million views in just six hours.

In this hashtag topic, there are many Weibo users bashing the U.S. lawmaker. Some of them even claimed that the arrival of Nancy Pelosi could spark a major tension between China and the U.S.

One of the comments stated that the expected visit of the American official is definitely a provocation of the United States.
