'Marvel Snap' Nexus Events Cancelled with Emergency Patch After Monetization Backlash

Second Dinner, the developer for "Marvel Snap," just announced that the Nexus Events would be canceled with a new emergency patch. This move happened after the company received harsh backlash due to the monetization approach of the card game.

'Marvel Snap' Chief Development Officer Acknowledged the Backlash

As per Dexerto, Ben Brode, the chief development officer of "Marvel Snap," released an official statement acknowledging the backlash around the Nexus Event. The event locked cards behind a "loot box-style system with very low odds of getting the card you want."

As per Brode, they are still working on what the company's future will be like in terms of monetization or what the new card could look like. The company announced that they were able to sneak out a certain type of emergency patch in order to have all the upcoming Nexus Events disabled once the current one ends.

Nexus Events Update Required Buyers to Use Gold to Buy Multiple Bundles

According to the story by NME, Brode added that the patch also reverts the changes back to the credit bundle purchases that initially came with the Nexus Events update. Users will be able to use gold in order to buy numerous bundles in the shop every single day.

Brode also noted that they would be removing the Nexus Events, and this will be the first step that they could implement as soon as possible. The developer noted that the studio is still working on other alternatives for the supposed Nexus Events.

Gamers in the Community Responded Positively to the Change

Although nothing specific has been discussed so far, Brode shared that "he hopes more information can be provided" soon. After announcing the removal of the Nexus Event, the community's response so far has been mostly positive.

A certain fan shared on Reddit that the fact that they could recognize the situation was still amazing. Another comment noted that they are glad that the game decided to scrap the whole event, and hopefully, the future ones will be very different.

Not Everyone was Pleased Despite the Decision to Change the Monetization Model

Another player noted that they are staying cautiously optimistic, but the decision to change the monetization structure has resulted in their trust being restored. There were those, however, that still weren't happy with the decision of the game to think of structuring the monetization that way from the start.

"Marvel Snap" was initially announced in May through a trailer that showed the game's very own multiverse-spanning roster as well as the alternate card art styles. As per an article by Dexerto, a single roll on the Nexus Event will cost 180 gold, with ten rolls costing 1,800 gold.

It was noted that the highest tier cards only had a drop rate of just 1.5%. Criticism regarding this decision called the game a "play-to-win."
