Spotify Car Thing Production Permanently Stopped; Here's What Will Happen To Units Sold

Spotify's Car Thing will no longer be manufactured. The streaming giant shared this decision just five months after the product was launched.

The tech firm first tested Car Thing on a small number of users back in April 2021. After this, Spotify decided to officially launch its car accessory last February.

However, the music streaming giant said that things are not really going smoothly for its vehicle dashboard.

Because of this, Spotify decided that it will no longer manufacture new units.

Spotify Car Thing Production Permanently Stopped

According to MacRumors' latest report, Spotify already spent $32 million developing Car Thing.

However, the audio streaming firm said that supply chain issues and product demand problems are affecting this product's sales.

"Based on several factors, including product demand and supply chain issues, we have decided to stop further production of Car Thing units," said Spotify's spokesperson.

As of press time, Car Thing units are still being sold by the tech firm. It didn't confirm when will the production halt really start.

For those who already purchased the car dashboard, Spotify said that there will be no issues, allowing you to keep the unit.

What Will Happen To Sold Car Thing Units?

Tech Crunch reported that the Car Thing units already sold to consumers will still remain functional. Spotify confirmed that it will still support the car dashboard.

The streaming giant added that this product allowed them to learn more about the importance of vehicles as a place for music.

As of press time, Spotify said that it will put more effort into its advertising business since it offers an all-time high revenue record.

Aside from its ad business, the streaming giant also said that its podcasts are also generating revenues, with over 4.4 million recordings active on the platform.

Spotify added that its podcasts' MAUs grew in the substantial double-digits year on year. Aside from this, the content's consumption rates also continue to rise.
