The U.S. government ordered around 800,000 monkeypox doses. Health regulators confirmed this detail on Wednesday, July 27.
Government officials across the globe are under fire as critics claim that their efforts to deploy monkeypox vaccines are too slow.
They added that officials are missing the window to contain the infectious disease.
Because of the virus' severity, the World Health Organization recently declared the monkeypox disease a public health emergency of international concern.
Now, it seems like the U.S. government is taking this disease more seriously than ever.
US Orders 800,000 Monkeypox Vaccines!
According to ABC News' latest report, the U.S. government has sent roughly 300,000 Jynneos vaccines to local and state health departments.
However, some areas still haven't received the needed medicines against monkeypox. These include New York, San Francisco, and other major U.S. cities.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services reassured these cities that more allocations would be announced on July 28.
Since the Jynneos vaccine has never been widely used, health authorities will observe the efficiency of this medicine.
Eligibility, How To Get It, and Other Details
NBC Chicago reported that the monkeypox disease primarily targets males who are having intercourse with other men.
However, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that the virus is now being transmitted to women and children.
Because of this, many individuals now want to get the monkeypox vaccine. However, health authorities are limiting their access to the following individuals:
- Those who were exposed to the disease.
- Those who are working closely with monkeypox patients.
- Those who made close contact with monkeypox patients.
If you are among these people, you still need to cooperate with your city's public health officials. Those who are interested in getting the Jynneos vaccine are encouraged to speak to their health departments.
Previously, 80 monkeypox cases across 11 countries were confirmed by WHO.
On the other hand, CDC confirmed the first U.S. monkeypox case.
