Nintendo just recently released a new update for its Nintendo Switch Online app. The new update lets owners access game-specific services like finding friends online and using voice chat during matches by using their smartphone or tablet.
New Nintendo Switch Update Version 2.2.0
The new update finally allows users to send requests directly from the app itself. The details were released in the Nintendo Switch Online version 2.2.0 notes, and the app finally has the option for users to be able to directly send friend requests by using the friend code.
As per the company, users will be able to copy their friend code as a URL or even save it as a QR code in order for them to share with others. This makes it easier for users to send friend requests to one another.
Users can Only Accept Friend Requests via the Console
A step-by-step process was uploaded by Nintendo to help users learn how to add their friends when using the app. Users, however, will only be able to accept friend requests when they are using the Nintendo Switch console.
According to the story by 9to5Mac, this means that users won't be able to accept friend requests through their smartphones or tablet. Users will only be able to accept friend requests through the console and not through their smartphones or tablets despite having the Nintendo Switch Online app installed.
Company is Still Trying to Fix the Inconvenience of Not being Able to Accept Friend Requests In-App
An article by The Verge notes that the brand new code system for multiplayer matches on the Nintendo Switch is actually considered a step back compared to the Wii U's Nintendo ID system.
It was also noted that the company is still trying to fix the inconvenience and provide a way for users to add their friends directly from the app. Aside from just adding friends directly, users can also search for them through the app.

Nintendo Switch Online Now Requires iOS 14 to be Installed
It is important to note that in order to use the new Nintendo Switch Online app features, users should have iOS 14 installed. The company, however, confirmed on its Japanese Twitter account that the update will, later on, spread to other older iPhone and iPad models later on.
The previous version of the app only required iOS 12 and later in order to work. This means that with the updated iOS version, the app will no longer be working on devices like the iPhone 5s, the iPhone 6, the iPad Air 1st gen, iPad mini 3, and the iPad touch 6th gen.
As per 9to5Mac, for users that have later models of iPhones or iPads, they can easily update their iOS version in order to be able to use the Nintendo Switch Online app and its new features.
