According to ComicBook Gaming, a Hall of Famer Digimon director, Hiroyuki Kakudō, previously told another "Digimon" director, Habu Kazumasa, about its origins.

Kakudo said that he does not believe that the digital monsters are born from technology or something that the story's tech and its developers made in their world. Furthermore, the director said that he believes "Digimon" is older than the story's history and has been around for centuries already before humans were able to harness their strength and other powers.
