The Wuhan-based Chinese scientists say that they look forward to their powerful laser being used in brain images or precision manufacturing.
Ultra-Powerful Laser By Chinese Wuhan Scientists
As per the latest news story by The Independent UK, researchers from China have showcased their impressive invention, a high-powered laser, which is capable of scarring the air.
The news outlet says that the Chinese scientists unveiled their laser by showcasing how powerful it actually is. The team of scientists from Wuhan went on to draw some characters in the air using the laser.
The Independent notes that the pattern that the laser left could be seen by its viewers at any angle that they wish. Not to mention that it could also be physically touched by bystanders.
According to a recent report by South China Morning Post, the Wuhan team made a demonstration of the high-powered laser at the Hongtuo Joint Laboratory of Ultra-Fast Laser.
The lead scientist at the Wuhan-based lab, Cao Xiangdong, says in an interview with Science and Technology Daily that "we can draw in the air without using paper and ink" by merely using their new laser-emitting device.
Ultra-Powerful Laser: How it Works
The South China Morning Post notes in its report that the new device creates an ionized gas or a plasma to emit energy in a light form. And to do so, it focuses on the high-intensity laser pulses found in the air.

The lead scientist further shares that "the display is an accumulation of our research over more than a decade."
The Hong Kong-based English news outlet also reports that the input power of the laser averages roughly 10 watts. And as such, it means that the newly invented device is safe to use on a daily basis.
The team of Chinese scientists states that they hope that the laser device will be used in more practical applications in the real world.
The Wuhan-based team says that they look forward to its usage in the quantum computing and the medical instruments in the future. They also hope that it would be used in fields like brain imaging and high-precision manufacturing.
But for now, the high-powered laser just got unveiled, and the best we could see it do is to write some characters in the air.
However, its novelty beginnings might be world-changing in the near future as it enters the field of quantum computing and more.
