PlayStation Extra or Premium membership owners have been wanting to try out the "FFVII Remake's" DLC called Intermission. Sadly, gamers that have owned the digital version of the game on the PS4 or PS5 have been struggling to play the DLC.
'Final Fantasy VII' Remake Intermission DLC
According to the story by Kotaku, the new "Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade,' the package that comes with both the base game as well as the "Intermission DLC," was a surprise expansion of the popular release of 2020 from Square Enix.
The package includes a separate, new chapter that is a revised story coming from the original game. The expansion will be focusing on Yuffie Kisaragi, and the side story helps users get to know her narrative "a bit more organically."
Yuffie Gets More Focus in the DLC
Yuffie was originally a complete option, and players can opt to miss back in the 1997 PlayStation release of the game. For players that have been deep into the "Final Fantasy VII" rabbit hole, it's known that there have been previous ambitions to include her side of the story as well as the side of her village, Wutai, in the game.
The remake reportedly tweaks certain elements of the game's old story. It makes sense to see other characters like Yuffie or Vincent Valentine getting more essential roles as per Kotaku. For gamers that have owned the digital copy of the PS4 or PS5 remake version, the new story could be hard to get on Sony's subscription service.
Gamers Won't be Able to Purchase Intermission Separately from the Service
An article by Video Games Chronicle notes that there's a big twist and that the package deal Intergrade is what's available on the subscription service and not Intermission, the episode focusing more on Yuffie.
This means that gamers won't be able to purchase Intermission separately coming from the service. To make things worse, if the gamer owned the original Remake digitally, they won't be able to download the full Intergrade combo.
Users are Complaining About the Situation
As found out by Kotaku, in certain cases, gamers might not be able to play Intergrade at all despite having purchased it. As found out, when gamers try to download Intergrade, they will be met with an error saying there is a conflict with the "Final Fantasy VII remake."
bLinkbruhyen on Reddit expressed how frustrated they were on the r/PS5. The user indicated that when trying to communicate with Square Enix, they would only indicate the obvious and nothing more.
Gamer Describes the Situation as 'Unfair'
The same sentiment was shared on Twitter by the user LasTedOnEarth who gave the description of the situation as "unfair." bLinkbruheyn was less likely to be the only one that got the digital Remake copy when it came out free through PlayStation Plus in 2021.
