Beginning in 2035, new "fossil fuel" car sales will be prohibited in Australia's capital, according to news.com.au.
Canberra will be the first region in Australia to require that all new vehicles will be electric, setting a record for the country as they opt for eco-friendly vehicles.
Interest-Free Loans For EV Buyers
Minister for Emissions Reduction Shane Rattenbury stated that the new regulations would apply to new automobiles, motorcycles, and small trucks. However, more states are anticipated to follow in the upcoming years.
However, Rattenbury noted that the government plans to take cars off the road from people driving in an all-petrol vehicle at the start of the year.
According to news.com.au, the ACT might reach an earlier goal by 2030. At the same time, it hopes to sell 80 to 90 percent, of zero-emission models of new light automobiles, by that time.
The ACT, which has a higher take-up rate than other jurisdictions, already offers interest-free loans up to $15,000 for purchasing electric vehicles, which serves as an incentive system for people to ditch all-petrol automobiles.
You might not have to pay stamp duty if you're purchasing a Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) for the first time, as noted by news.co.au. Purchasers of ZEVs, whether new or secondhand, are entitled to two years of free ACT vehicle registration as well.
Under the Sustainable Household Scheme, zero interest loans, eligible households have accessibility to up to $15,000 for the purchase of an electric vehicle.
Although many of the specifics were still being worked out, Rattenbury said that the ACT government wanted to give drivers a very clear message of encouraging people to use electric vehicles.
The Rise of Electric Cars
The UK government has also made plans to prohibit the sale of new gasoline and diesel vehicles starting in 2030. The sale of new fossil fuel vehicles will also be prohibited under European Union's proposed legislation by 2035.
Beginning in 2025, Singapore will also not accept new registrations for taxis and cars fueled by diesel.
In Albania, instead of imposing a ban on fossil fuel vehicles, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is encouraging people to switch to electric vehicles with incentives in place.
In fact, Albania has committed to a plan to switch to electric vehicles with zero emissions, backed by the International Energy Agency and the UN.
