Sony successfully acquired Bungie in its recent dealings for $3.6 billion, but its SEC filing said that it is approximately in the $3.7 billion price mark. Nevertheless, the deal went through, and both companies announced that Bungie is now joining the PlayStation under its games development and features, with a promise that its future games would not be PlayStation exclusives.
Sony Acquires Bungie for $3.6 Billion, Now Under PlayStation
PlayStation's recent announcement via Twitter made the news official, and that is Bungie joining the company for its games development and the entirety of its gaming studio. That means that the "Destiny" franchise is coming into PlayStation, and it is one of the most prominent games on the PS5 among the public.
The official acquisition price said that the company sold its entirety for $3.6 billion, but an SEC filing regarding the deal said last week that it is approximately in the $3.7 billion price.
Bungie Games Would Not be PlayStation Exclusives
Bungie is bringing its business to Sony Interactive Entertainment, and the company also confirmed this via its blog post earlier today. In its 31 years in the gaming industry, the "magic" is now coming to PlayStation to co-develop games and bring new features to the world, something that gamers would soon experience from them.
The gaming company said that it would be publishing and creating games independently, and that means the company would not bring its games as a PlayStation exclusive in its releases.
Games for the PC and Xbox will continue to see development and releases from Bungie, despite being under PlayStation's wing.
PlayStation and Bungie
PlayStation is one of the most prominent video game companies in the world, and it is famous for bringing the gaming console that brought the world endless entertainment hours and features to enjoy. Sony's PlayStation 5 is the latest gaming console in the market, and it will turn two years old in November this year, with its sales significantly dropping in Japan.
It is still one of the most prominent gaming consoles in the world, as one of its only competition is the Xbox Series console that came from the famous American company, Microsoft.
Sony's development for the PlayStation pushed it to bring its dedicated IN ZONE gaming peripherals that bring monitors for the world to use, dedicated for the PS5.
Many ventures came into Sony during this time, including the acquisition it recently had with Bungie, now onboard the company's gaming department and focus. However, this is not an exclusive deal for Bungie's future releases, especially with the prominent games that the developer brings to the world, including that of "Destiny's" franchise.
