The NASA 2022 International Space Apps Challenge is now open for registration.
This international space agency annual program aims to gather talented individuals who can help them remove the access barrier between science and space.
The International Space Apps Challenge started in April 2012, serving as a platform for civic engagements and acting as a space innovation hub.
Of course, this program doesn't only focus on developing apps that can help the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's space missions.

According to the official NASA Gov press release, the NASA International Space Apps Challenge is considered to be the world's largest hackathon.
"Each year, Space Apps allows thousands to engage with NASA and its partners' open data during the hackathon," said NASA Associate Administrator Thomas Zurbuchen.
He added that seeing the projects created by the Space Apps Challenge participants is very rewarding.
Zurbuchen further shared that he is glad to observe the potential of many individuals when it comes to creator solutions for the most difficult space challenges experienced by NASA, both on Earth and outer space.
Now, the 2022 International Space Apps Challenge wants to focus on space exploration, technology, and science. Challenges will range from objective, subject matter, expertise, and skill level.
How To Register, Theme, and More
The new theme of NASA's annual hackathon is "Make Space." To give you more idea about the aim of the space agency this year, here's the provided definition of the theme:
- S: Safe, Solve
- P: Possibility, People
- A: Access, Appreciation
- C: Collaboration, Culture
- E: Equity, Empowerment
When it comes to the actual activities, participants are expected to work on software applications, art projects, as well as prototypes that can be used for NASA's future missions.
As of writing, the exact challenges are not yet announced. But, NASA will definitely provide more detailed information for its 2022 International Space Apps Challenge.
