New E-Bike Drivetrain Now Gives Automatic Shifting: Shimano's EP600 and EP801 Motors

Regarding bicycle technology, Shimano has been a popular name and has been a leader in the industry for several decades now. With the rise of e-Bikes, the company is still continuing to be a leading innovator when it comes to e-Bike tech with the release of new automatic transmission systems.

The Japanese Company Introduces the CUES Shifting Mode

According to the story by Inside EVs, the Japanese company's new motors are designed to help give commuter bikes more convenience and efficiency. The new drivetrain models are intended with CUES, "a commuter electric-bike specific drivetrain that features automatic shifting."

The company refers to the CUES as a type of dedicated lifestyle component that makes it ideal for users driving their e-bikes as a primary means of mobility. The brand new CUES drivetrain uses the LinkGlide technology, which gets the different Deore XT Di2 system's cutting-edge features.

CUES System Comes with Two Different Speed Steps

The CUES system is offered within two steps, the 10-speed as well as the 11-speed. Although both derailleurs look very similar, the 10-speed unit is capable of handling up to 43-teeth low-ratio sprockets.

The 11-speed unit, however, is capable of more versatility and is capable of handling up to 50 teeth sprockets, mainly thanks to the medium cage of the setup. When it comes to the Di2 system, the CUES e-bike drivetrain gives a promise of precise electronic shifting.

The Automatic Shifting Capabilities are Referred to as the System's Automatic Shifting Capabilities

The 11-speed unit is also capable of durability and seamless drivetrain construction. This, however, has also been the case for other Shimano systems regardless of what tier they are in.

The new CUES system also comes with its own automatic shifting, meaning users will be able to either enable the Freeshift Mode or the Manual Override and shift between the two whenever they want. The system's automatic shifting capabilities "are its ultimate selling point."

The New CUES Drivetrain is Compatible for Both the EP600 and EP801

The systems were reportedly designed to help optimize both efficiency and energy, which would allow riders and the motor to be able to extend its total riding range. When it comes to the motor, the new CUES drivetrain by Shimano is compatible with both the EP600 and EP801 drive units as well.

This means that users can easily choose to upgrade their electric bike's drivetrain whenever they want to the fancier system. This is provided that the e-Bikes being used are running on any of the motors.

A complete rundown of the specs was noted in the article by Bike Rumor, along with a more detailed description of the different shifting modes. As per Inside EVs, users can expect OEMs to start integrating the brand new Shimano CUES drivetrains in order to build their very own commuter e-bikes very soon.
