The truck manufacturer's North America branch confirmed its new plan on July 14, saying it will deploy high-powered chargers at existing Volvo Trucks dealership locations across Northern and Central California.

Volvo Trucks added that they would do this for the next eighteen months.

"We are excited to begin construction of the Electrified Charging Corridor Project this year in collaboration with these pioneering truck dealerships," said Volvo Trucks North America President Peter Voorhoeve via their official press release.

The truck manufacturer said it would work with various manufacturers, such as Shell Recharge Solutions, Western Truck Center, TEC Equipment, Affinity Truck Center, etc.

Aside from these companies, Volvo Financial Services and Volvo Technology of America will also join the new charging network expansion.

Once the project's construction starts, the new charging units will join the existing infrastructure of Southern California, allowing more heavy-duty and medium-duty electric cars to run longer distances.

Electrified Charging Corridor's Goals

Voorhoeve said that their new Electrified Charging Corridor project in California is a big deal to achieve a pure electrified freight industry.

He added that once the charging network expansion is completed, heavy-duty and medium-duty EVs will no longer be limited to return-to-base and short-mileage operations.

This means that zero-emission delivery vehicles can now cover longer distances. Because of the benefits it offers, CEC (California Energy Commission) Commissioner Patty Monahan shared their excitement with Volvo Trucks' charging network expansion, saying that they will support the project.
