Nintendo has bought Dynamo Pictures, a CG production studio, and will rebrand it as "Nintendo Pictures" The popular gaming company revealed in a letter on Thursday, July 14.
The rebranded animation study will concentrate on planning and producing visual content, including CG animation, as well as developing animation content using Nintendo IP.
As noticed first by The Verge, the company's IMBD profile includes credits for various games, such as post-production work on Metroid: Other M and performance capture work on Death Stranding and Persona 5.
Gearing For Super Mario Bros. Movie
"Nintendo has decided to acquire 100% of the outstanding shares (excluding treasury shares) of Dynamo Pictures and make it a wholly owned subsidiary to strengthen the planning and production structure of visual content in the Nintendo group," the letter writes.
According to Nintendo, the purchase is anticipated to close on October 3, 2022, but is still subject to the fulfillment of all applicable terms and starting closing conditions.
The purchase comes as Nintendo prepares for its biggest movie release, an animated film based on the Super Mario Bros. franchise starring Chris Pratt.
The movie will debut in theaters in the spring 2023-nearly 30 years after the previous cinematic adaptation, where Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo starred in the live-action Super Mario Bros. in 1993.

Deadline reported the delay was made in order to maximize the family audience for a release around the Easter holiday the following year. The Verge said that it might coincide with the launch of the first US Super Nintendo World theme park and Nintendo's follow-up to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
So far, the most recent Nintendo movie was the "Detective Pikachu" live-action adaptation based on the Pokémon series, which was released in 2019.
The purchase of Dynamo pictures also coincides with a surge in enthusiasm for adapting video games into motion pictures and television programs.
