EU approved the new anti-gatekeeping legislation called the "Digital Services Package."
This means that Apple, Google, Meta, and other giant tech firms will now face stricter rules, preventing them from doing their gatekeeping activities.
The European Commission confirmed the adoption of this new landmark legislation on July 5.
"The Commission welcomes the adoption by the European Parliament of the Digital Services Act and Digital Markets Act, proposed by the Commission in December 2020," said the EU via its official press release.
EU's Anti-Gatekeeping Law is Now Approved!
According to MacRumors' latest report, the European Commission proposed the Digital Markets Act (DMA) and Digital Services Act (DSA).

These laws have been combined to create the so-called Digital Services Package (DSP).
EU explained that the European Parliament had adopted DSP as a solution for the ongoing gatekeeping activities of giant tech firms.
As of writing, experts stated that Apple is among the tech firms most likely affected by the new landmark legislation.
Aside from the giant iPhone maker, Meta, Google, and other industry-leading tech manufacturers are also expected to be subjected to the rules of DSP.
EU Digital Services Package
Now that the EU adopted the new Digital Services Act, Apple and other tech firms accused of gatekeeping should follow the following regulations:
- Tech firms need to make sure that subscribers have the right to disconnect from core platform services.
- Tech manufacturers should ensure that their applications are uninstallable.
- Companies must always inform the European Commission if they merge with other tech firms. They should also do this if they are making any acquisitions.
