Ubisoft will perform mass decommissioning of its online features starting in September 2022.
Some of the games include:
- Anno 2070
- Assassin's Creed 2
- Assassin's Creed 3
- Assassin's Creed Brotherhood
- Assassin's Creed Liberation HD
- Driver San Francisco
- Far Cry 3
- Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands
- Silent Hunter 5
- Space Junkies
- Splinter Cell: Blacklist
Multiplayer, linking accounts, and online features are the ones that Ubisoft will eliminate from these games. Some will also lose access to DLC and linking of accounts.
According to PC Gamer, "Closing the online services for some older games allows us to focus our resources on delivering great experiences for players who are playing newer or more popular titles," stated Ubisoft.
On another note, Ubisoft will reveal what's next for the Assassin's Creed franchise later this year, according to Engadget. The company will host a special event in September to discuss the future of the series.
So far, the company is known to be working on two new Assassin's Creed projects. The first is a live service experience that is under the code name Infinity that will showcase multiple time periods and settings to let fans play together. The second is codenamed Rift, which will steer the series back to its stealth roots.
More Updates from Ubisoft
Another recent update from Ubisoft is that they will encourage climate change awareness in in-game events in Skull and Bones and Riders Republic.
The idea is part of the Playing for the Planet Alliance's annual Green Game Jam that encourages firms to include environmental concerns in games.
For Riders Republic, it will kick off with map-edge wildfires wherein gamers will experience orange sky and fire smoke fog through the game. There will be a default gas mask and an unbreathable location.
Users will need to prevent Sequoia's fire that will require using Photo Mode to identify the most flammable portions and fragile areas of the Sequoia National Park. They will work to ensure the fire doesn't spread too much.
On the other hand, Skull & Bones will focus on resource exploitation. This will show what happens in the game and real-world when the demand for sharks is affected due to overfishing. Players will have the chance to contribute to marine and animal protection.
Another update is that Ubisoft has confirmed that it will not host its own event this month. Since 2020, the publisher has been holding its shows.
The company did not explain the reason it's not producing a show this month but said that they are putting an event together for later this year. However, Ubisoft isn't the only company that will skip the summer showcase period, EA will also not be holding their EA Play this year.
