Is the United States following through with this trend?

iPhone 13 Price Increase in Japan

As per a news story by 9to5 Mac, the prices of iPhone 13 and other iPhone models have become more expensive in Japan.

The news outlet notes that iPhone models have inflated their prices in The Land of the Rising Sun. The increase averages at around 20%, making Apple smartphones more unaffordable for Japanese buyers.

How Much are iPhones in Japan

The price increase in Japan affects various Apple mobile devices, such as the latest budget iPhone SE and the iPhone 13 series.

The entry-level smartphone of Apple, the third-generation iPhone SE, with measly 64 GB of internal storage, previously retails for $423 or 57,8000 Japanese yen. But this time around, its price has inflated to $459 or 62,800 yen.

Apart from the price increase in the newest 2022 iPhone SE, the iPhone lineup also gets more expensive in Japan.

The iPhone 13 Pro, which comes with 128 GB of storage, used to sell for $899 or 122,800. But with the price increase, it now retails for a hefty $1,060 or 144,800 yen.

9to5 Mac notes that the prices of iPhone in Japan used to be cheaper than in the US, but it now lags a bit behind the American pricing.

Japanese Yen Losing Value?

The inflated prices of iPhone in Japan is heavily due to the weakening value of the local currency in Japan versus the US dollar. In fact, in the last three months the Japanese yen has lost about 15% of its value over USD.

And as such, the value of imported goods in Japan follows the weakening value of the Japanese yen these days.

But despite that, Apple interestingly only changed the pricing for the iPhones. Thus, its other product offerings see no change in their costs in Japan.

iPhone 13 Price in the US

All that said, will the prices of iPhones also go up in the US?

Well, the whole situation in Japan is primarily dependent on the value of their local currency.

So, based on that alone, there seems to be no looming price inflation of iPhones here in the US.

iPhone 14 Price

However, according to a recent report by Phone Arena, the upcoming iPhone 14 might flaunt a more expensive price tag on its debut this fall.

Reputable sources like Jon Prosser predict that pricing details of the new iPhone to increase by $100 compared to the iPhone 13.
