Unity, a software development firm behind the famous game engine has reportedly removed hundreds of employees, the recent report says.
For those unfamiliar with the company's logo, it is usually present in some famous video game titles including "Cuphead," "Hearthstone," "Ori and the Blind Forest," and more.
Unity Layoffs Hundreds of Workers
Unity is one of the thriving firms in the gaming industry. The Unity engine which is recognized because of its box-shaped emblem is what gamers commonly see when loading a particular game.
The company started in mid-200s and at the time, the number of developers in the organization had been increasing. Former EA boss John Riccitiello became the Unity CEO in 2014, Six years later, he saw that his compensation pay jumped to $22 million.
Speaking of employment, Kotaku spotted via the company's IPO filing that over 3,000 individuals were working in the company.
Recently, multiple sources told the gaming site that Unity has held a mass exodus of its workers globally.
As of writing, the company continues the operation of removing the employees. Engadget says that the number of dismissed staffers will be much higher by the time the termination is finished.
In an interview, Unity told the tech site that 4% of its workforce were dismissed as part of the "resources realignment." It should be noted that around 300 individuals have already exited the company.
"As part of a continued planning process where we regularly assess our resourcing levels against our company priorities, we decided to realign some of our resources to better drive focus and support our long-term growth. This resulted in some hard decisions that impacted approximately 4% of all Unity workforce. We are grateful for the contributions of those leaving Unity and we are supporting them through this difficult transition," Unity spoke to Engadget.

What Could Have Happened Behind Unity Layoff?
Kotaku spotted that there were some posts at Blind from people who allegedly worked at Unity. At the time, one person wrote that some of the employees were instructed to join a Zoom meeting. The exclusive call involves the staff, the HR personnel, and the manager.
After a brief discussion, they noticed that they have no access anymore to their email and Slack. They were also asked to surrender their laptops in two days.
Additionally, a 30-day leeway is given to the affected employees. They will spend these days searching for a new role in the company.
It won't be possible since Unity implemented a hiring freeze. However, the company claimed that there's no truth behind this.
Furthermore, an unknown source told Kotaku that there's a lot of internal issues happening inside the company. As such, "strategic pivots at a rapid, unpredictable rate," and mismanagement are allegedly occuring at Unity.
Layoffs in Tech Industry
Aside from Unity, many tech companies are downsizing their employees for some reasons. For instance, Tencent and Alibaba announced back in March that they would remove thousands of employees because of the regulatory crackdown in China.
Video streaming giant Netflix has also laid off 3% of its entire workforce as part of its strategy to cope up with the economic crash. Last May, the company removed 150 workers.
