According to a report by Global Times, Tencent confirmed on Friday, June 24, that it would roll out a specialized cloud platform that would boost the smart driving industry in the nation.

As per Tencent Intelligent Mobility VP Liu Shuquan, the company is currently coordinating with other US-based car makers regarding this technology.

As of writing, the firm's official did not give any specific names for the companies that will be collaborating.

So far, Liu only said that the technology would be an all-around product for cloud innovation. As such, this would be useful in all "technological" sides of the EV business.

Liu continued that the technology could likely tackle data storage improvement for autonomous driving, as well as the essential apps that drivers could use.

It should be noted that Tencent is one of the tech leaders when it comes to the gaming sector. With that being said, it's understandable why it wants to be the "go-to" firm when it comes to introducing the user interface to self-driving vehicles.

Aside from that, the Shenzhen-based company also caters to the app users' needs. The firm has Tencent Video for high-quality video streaming. There's also QQ Music, an app that could compete with Spotify in China.

Self-Driving Tech is Improving

Because of the popularity of self-driving cars, many drivers want to test out how the autonomous system works.

The auto industry in China is slowly thriving with EVs, as evident by 23% of assisted driving-enabled cars sold in the country.

According to a report by CNBC on Monday, June 27, both the local and overseas car manufacturers could take advantage of the smart vehicle features, which would complement the Chinese terrain in a particular location.

"The data is owned by [the] OEM, the consumer. We just provide cloud service to store that data. The second thing is we provide a whole ecosystem. That ecosystem not only include[s] our own service and content but also our partners," Liu said.

Apart from the American car firms, Tencent is reportedly partnering with Japanese and German automakers to bring the self-driving feature to China.

Since China is currently the biggest EV market, boosting the industry will indeed help the country's economy.
