Instagram New Feature: 'Disappearing Messages' Now in Testing

Instagram is finally testing out a new feature called "disappearing messages," which allows users to share content that disappears on the platform. The new feature is called Notes which allows users to post quick notes to followers, friends, and other Instagram users.

New Instagram Feature Spotted by a Marketer on Twitter

As per the report, the feature was first spotted by Ahmed Ghanem, a marketer, that tweeted about the new feature sharing screenshots regarding how the new feature would supposedly work.

According to the story by Gadgets Now, as per the tweet, the Notes feature that Instagram is working on is more like the disappearing message feature on other apps like Snapchat or Facebook Messenger's private messages. A disappearing message would automatically disappear in the span of 24 hours.

How the Instagram Notes Feature is Supposed to Work

The Notes feature will directly appear in the app's very own direct messaging section as a new row just above the messages. The new Notes feature that is shared will also have its own "+" button, which would allow its users to make some additions to them that is visible by all the messages that were shared.

Notes, however, do have a character limit, according to a report by Tech Crunch, which also noted that users won't be getting any notifications regarding the Notes but will only be able to view them for just 24 hours in the app.

Instagram Confirms that They are Working on the New Feature

As per the article, the new feature could help put a highlight on important messages coming from friends that would not like them lost in the inbox. To add, the feature could also offer more visibility compared to posting on Stories.

The tests being done by Instagram could also help them determine whether the feature should be rolled out to even a wider user base. As per Tech Crunch, Instagram also confirmed that they are testing the Notes feature on a limited number of users.

Instagram Features Still Being Tested Out

A Meta spokesperson said that they are always working on new ways in order for users to better connect by using Instagram. The spokesperson then confirmed that they are now testing out Notes in order for people to quickly share their thoughts with their friends or even a small group of people.

As per Gadgets Now, while the main idea of leaving a note or a disappearing message isn't that new, the feature could be quite useful in certain situations wherein users don't want important messages lost between a certain ongoing conversation.

The article then highlighted that the feature is still being tested out by Instagram and that there is no confirmation as of press time regarding when and if the final version of Notes will arrive to a broader audience.
