New 200MP Camera Sensors Announced by Samsung: Smaller Pixels with Increased Autofocus

Samsung has just revealed its newest technology, 200MP image sensors to be used for the smartphones. The new sensor is called the Isocell HP3 and is capable of packing 200 million 0.56 micrometer-sized pixels.

Samsung New 200MP Image Sensors are Now Upgraded

According to the story by ZDNet, the new pixels are reportedly 12% smaller compared to the 0.64 micrometer-sized pixels that were initially used on Samsung's previous 200MP image sensors. The previous sensors are called Isocell HP1 and were announced in 2021.

By reducing the size of the pixels, Samsung was able to pack more into smaller sizes. The sizes of its new technology were 20% smaller compared to its predecessor per the company.

New Isocell HP3 Comes with Upgraded Resolutions

The new technology reportedly resulted in quicker and more accurate focus along with a better resolution for the whole captured image. The new Isocell HP3 is capable of supporting video recording at resolutions of 30fps 8K and 120fps 4K.

It was noted that the 8K videos can be taken "in the same field of view as a photo." It was also noted that the newer technology would also include a feature that is called the staggering high dynamic range which is capable of synthesizing three frames at the same time when a picture is taken.

Upgraded Camera Sensors Now with Mid-ISO Capabilities

The three frames are taken with both dark and bright areas along with high contrasts in order to make clearer images. The Isocell HP3 not just synthesizes low ISO and high ISO photos but is also capable of adding mid-ISO in order to add details to the image.

The image sensor is reportedly capable of supporting 14bit and also offers pixel-binning capable of up to 16 pixels. This makes it easier for photos that are taken in the dark to be able to absorb light.

Samsung Says ISOCELL HP3 Samples Now Available for Testing

Samsung announced that the new Isocell HP3 image sensors will start going into mass production this year. The company didn't mention which smartphone models will be using the new technology.

As per Sam Mobile, the new ISOCELL HP3 samples are already available for testing. With the new technology, Samsung could potentially capture better quality photos without having to increase the size of its sensors.

How the New ISOCELL Technology can Upgrade Smartphones

Instead, the new sensors will be smaller compared to the older sensors which would result in a more compact sensor for the smartphones. Instead of using bulky cameras, Samsung could make the most out of its cameras while not having to make a lot of adjustments to the sizes of its cameras.

With more compact phones, buyers could still enjoy slim smartphone models with cameras capable of higher-quality images.
