Amazon's new autonomous warehouse robotic workers have arrived. The e-commerce giant revealed its new machines a few months after the actual workers voted to join a union.
For the past few years, Amazon has been trying to prevent the formation of a major worker union since it can affect its business in numerous ways.
Gizmodo reported that the new worker machines can actually work by themselves. This means that human supervision is no longer needed.
These robots can definitely help Amazon, especially since it is criticized by many employees due to its bad working environment.
Amazon Autonomous Warehouse Robot Workers Arrive
According to TechSpot's latest report, Amazon unveiled its first-ever autonomous machine called "Proteus."
"Proteus is our first fully autonomous mobile robot. Historically, it's been difficult to safely incorporate robotics in the same physical space as people," said the giant retailer.
When it comes to features, Amazon explained that Proteus can move around facilities on its own, thanks to its advanced perception, navigation technology, as well as safety features.
The e-commerce giant added that it is specifically designed to work by itself, as well as coordinated with human employees. This means that real workers will not be interrupted by these machines once they start roaming around Amazon facilities.
On the other hand, Amazon didn't clarify if Proteus will replace human workers. You can click this link to see further details.
Issues of Amazon With Its Employees
In April, Amazon workers at a Staten Island warehouse won against the e-commerce giant after the majority of the staff voted to unionize.
Thanks to this, the Amazon Labor Union, a new organization for employees, was formed. But, David Rosenfeld, a labor lawyer, explained that the retailer will still try to change this decision.
He added that Amazon will avoid a contract since it will further encourage more unionization in other places. Meanwhile, The Guardian reported that Amazon might run out of workers around 2024.
This information was leaked by an internal memo, stating that e-commerce will deplete the available labor force in the U.S. network as early as 2024.
On the other hand, the Amazon Kindle bookstore in China is expected to completely shut down.
Previously, the Amazon Worldwide Consumer CEO said that he will leave his position on July 1.
