The Indian government has finally approved the 5G services in the country.
On June 15, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, also the Union Cabinet chairman, gave the Department of Telecommunications or DoT's 5G spectrum auction the go signal to be distributed to bidders.
This will allow telecommunication services to offer 5G services to its customers.
India to Rollout 5G
The Union Cabinet has advertised the 5G network will give better speed and capacity, making streaming and browsing easier and faster.
5G network is at least 10 times better in performance compared to 4G network.
According to XDA Developers, the auction has a validity of 20 years and a spectrum of 72097.85 MHz, and it will be held by the end of July.
Then Minister of Telecom and IT, Ashwini Vaishnav, said that the spectrum auction announced the 5G services rollout is an important part of "developing BharatKa5G ecosystem."

The 5G spectrum auction includes three different frequency bands: Low, which consists of 600 MHz, 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz; Mid, which consists of 3300 MHz; and High, which consist of 26 GHz.
The Indian government expects telecommunication service providers to utilize the available Mid and High band spectrum to offer the 5G service in several regions.
How Can Indians Benefit from 5G?
The approval of the rollout of the 5G spectrum auction is a way for the service to go mainstream in the country. However, it will not happen overnight.
The citizens of India will have to wait months, or even years, to get a fast internet connection on their smartphones. Whoever ends up getting the bid will have to test the 5G services first before it gets rolled out nationwide.
The telecommunication companies will reveal more plans for 5G launch during the auction. According to India Today, the three main carriers that will participate in the 5G auction are Vodafone Idea, Reliance Jio, and Bharti Airtel.
5G for Enterprises
The announcement regarding the 5G spectrum auction came after The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) sent a letter to Ashwini Vaishnaw, India's Communications Minister, regarding the 5G networks.
In the letter, COAI stated that local carriers would not have incentives to deploy 5G networks if the government allowed private companies to turn their own 5G networks.
The COAI added that there is no business case for the rollout of 5G networks if the Indian government approves the possibility of enterprises operating their own private 5G networks.
The association pointed out that if the Indian government permits private 5G networks, it will diminish the revenue, and there will be no viable business case left for the telecommunication service providers.
The entity also pointed out that there will be no need for a 5G network rollout anymore.
According to a report by RCR Wireless News, the government is still in the process of evaluating if local enterprises will be allowed to have their own 5G network or if local carriers should only carry out the networks.
