Disney+, the streaming video service of The Walt Disney Company, is now available in 50 countries.
As of June 14, Disney+ is now available in Poland, Romania, Greece, Turkey Czech Republic, Croatia, and Hungary.
Disney+ Expands to 50 Countries
According to TechCrunch, the series of launches follow the arrival of the streaming video service in South Africa on May 18 and across North Africa and West Asia on June 8.
Disney+ is set to launch in Israel on June 16, making the streaming service available in 60 countries across Africa, West Asia, and Europe.
According to The Verge, Netflix is still the only streaming service that is available in more than 190 countries, but Disney+ is slowly catching up.
Since its launch, Disney has aimed to make its streaming service available globally and showcase its impressive library full of hit movies and TV shows. Disney+ subscribers can access Marvel, Pixar, Disney, and Star Wars content.
Disney+ Increasing Subscribers
According to Variety, Disney+ currently has more than 87.6 million subscribers and 50.1 million subscribers of Disney+ Hotstar in India.
The Walt Disney Company revealed during its Q2 earnings report that in the United States and Canada alone, its streaming video service has 44.4 million subscribers.
Its numbers are definitely better compared to Netflix, which had lost around 200,000 subscribers, and it has more subscribers compared to HBO Max, which has around 77 million as of Q1 2022.
Disney also revealed that it is earning more per Disney+ subscriber than it had previously. The average monthly revenue per paid subscriber was $6.01, but as of early 2022, it is now at $6.32. The company said it is because of an "increase in retail pricing and lower mix of wholesale subscribers."
The Hollywood Reporter added that Disney plans to roll out advertising tiers with lower subscription prices in the future, which can help with the company's ad revenue.
If this plan pushes through, Disney+ could generate around $1.8 billion in ad revenue in the United States.
Disney+ Subscription Fee
In the United States, the monthly subscription fee for Disney+ costs around $7.99. However, if you sign up for a year, it is more cost-effective, as it is only $79.99, which is almost 20% less than if you paid a monthly fee for 12 months.
Disney+ also offers a bundled service for its US subscribers, as they can get both Hulu and ESPNS Plus for $13.99 a month, which is $8 cheaper than subscribing to all three streaming services separately.
In Canada, a Disney+ subscription is $11.99 per month or $119.99 a year. In Australia, it is $11.99 a month or $119.99 a year, while in New Zealand, it is $12.99 a month or $129.99 a year.
For UK subscribers, the streaming service costs £7.99 or $9.99 a month, around £79.90 or $95 a year.
Compare the prices to its rival Netflix, which costs around $9.99 a month. Its other competitors, such as Amazon Prime and HBO Max, costs $12.99 and $9.99 a month, respectively.
