iPadOS 16 Beta 1 could reportedly enable a secret custom lock screen, even if Apple only officially introduces the new option to its all-new iOS 16 for iPhones.
The earliest beta of the latest iPadOS appears to come with a custom lock screen option, but it requires a few tweaks to make use of it. Not to mention it is obviously an unofficial route.
iPadOS 16 Beta
Apple introduced the all-new iPadOS 16, the upcoming iOS 16, and the refined macOS Ventura during its packed Worldwide Developers Conference or WWDC 2022.
The event also unveiled some of the most exciting features arriving on iPads, such as the all-new Stage Manager, according to a recent report by MacRumors.
The new iPadOS also brings the Apple tablet closer to Macs, thanks to its support for desktop options like undo and redo functions -- as well as the handy context menus.
Apple's Custom Lock Screen
Meanwhile, the iOS 16 of Apple iPhones boasts its next-generation customization features, allowing users to tailor their smartphone lock screen to their liking.
It comes as a surprise to some Apple fans as the Cupertino-based tech giant does not typically give out customization features to its users.
In fact, the lock screen on iOS has remained a minimalist space for its users since the early versions of the iPhone, making this a massive update.
But iOS 16 is bound to make significant changes. It brings new options which let users tweak the typeface and even the colors of the lock screen, MacRumors notes in its report.
And to complete the whole custom offering, the new update also expands widgets, which used to be exclusive on the home screen, to the lock screen.
However, while iOS 16 gets its much-need customization functions, the iPadOS 16 is pretty much getting left behind.
Apple says the new custom lock screen is only reaching iOS 16 users. On the other hand, iPadOS 16 settles with the classic minimalist look.
Contrary to what the Cupertino giant unveiled, there appears to be a way to bring the custom lock screen to an iPad.

iPadOS 16 Beta 1 Custom Lock Screen
To be more precise, the latest report by 9to5Mac bares that a debug menu sort of brings the lock screen custom option to the new iPadOS.
The developer, Federico Viticci, discovered that Apple forgot to hide the shortcut for the iOS 16 PosterBoard on iPadOS.
So, Beta 1 users only have to access the iOS app to bring the custom lock screen to the earlier iPadOS.
