US Navy's Hypersonic Missile Integration To Enhance Zumwalt Class Destroyer!

The U.S. Navy's hypersonic missile integration will soon enhance the Zumwalt Class destroyer, one of the most advanced guided missile warships in the United States.

As of writing, there are only a total of three Zumwalt class destroyers, with two of them being active in the sea.

But, the U.S. government still plans to create more, hoping that there will be a total of 32 Zumwalt warships defending the country.

Aside from developing more destroyers, the U.S. Navy is also exploring various ways to enhance the advanced Zumwalt warship.

Recently, DefenseNews reported that the defense department was looking for ideas on how to integrate larger hypersonic missiles into the destroyer.

US Navy Now Enhancing Zumwalt Destroyer!

According to NavalNews' latest report, the U.S. Navy now wants to upgrade the Zumwalt destroyer using the advanced Conventional Prompt Strike (CPS) hypersonic missile.

The non-nuclear strategic hypersonic weapon system is expected to provide the United States' warships with unrivaled firepower.

For those who are unfamiliar with the CPS missiles, these hypersonic defense rockets can reach more than Mach 5 (beyond five times the speed of sound).

Thanks to this ultra-speed capability, the CPS hypersonic missiles can reach thousands of miles in a split second.

As of writing, the U.S. Navy is still undecided on how it will be mounted into the Zumwalt Class destroyer.

What US Navy Might Do

Experts said that the U.S. Navy can get rid of the Zumwalt's 155mm gun mounts, allowing at least two CPS hypersonic missiles to be integrated.

If the defense agency decided to remove all the 155mm guns of Zumwalt, they can mount up to eight CPS hypersonic rockets.

But, the latest visualization conducted by Lockheed Martin revealed that the U.S. Navy will likely retain two of Zumwalt's gun mounts, enabling the giant destroyer to carry four CPS missiles.

On the other hand, the U.S. and Germany announced that they will provide advanced anti-aircraft missiles to Ukraine.
