CDC says that the U.S. has a COVID-19 vaccine utilization issue. Although the United States is among the countries that have enough vaccines against the novel coronavirus strains, many Americans still reject getting their medicine jabs.
If U.S. residents continue to prefer not having their COVID-19 vaccine, then it will have a long-term impact since the global pandemic is expected to last longer.
Top health officials said that the problem with the COVID-19 vaccination uptake in the U.S. is a very serious one.
CDC Says US COVID-19 Vaccine Utilization Has a Problem
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed that only around 48% of residents below the age of 12 had been fully vaccinated and received at least one shot of COVID-19 booster doses.
This means that more than half of American adults remain unvaccinated, even though health experts continue to identify more contagious COVID-19 variants.
"Anything we can do to get people more comfortable to be able to accept these potentially life-saving medical products is something that we feel we are compelled to do," said Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research Director Dr. Peter Marks via CNN World.
On Tuesday, June 7, Dr. Marks was able to speak with FDA (Food and Drug Administration), as well as the Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee, for the approval of the new COVID-19 vaccine created by Novavax.
After that, the committee voted in favor of the vaccine's approval, explaining that FDA's emergency authorization would be very beneficial to the U.S.
