Fitness App Now Usable for Non-Apple Watch Users Through iOS 16

Apple is opening up its Fitness app for non-Apple Watch users through its new iOS 16. Although the app has long been in existence, now, as long as users have the iOS 16, they will be able to access the Fitness app.

Apple is Now Allowing iPhone Users to Use the Fitness App without an Apple Watch

According to the story by MacRumors, the Fitness app used to only be available on the iPhone for users with the Apple Watch. This tool allowed users to track their activity and other health measures in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

With updates made to the iOS 16, users without the Apple Watch will now also be able to use the app for health reasons. The only requirement for users is to at least have an iPhone that is updated enough to handle the iOS 16.

iOS 16 Update Allows Fitness App to be Used by All Compatible Devices

Another requirement, of course, is that users should have enough memory for the iOS 16 and the Fitness app. For users that are full-on memory for both the operating system update and the app, it might be a good idea to clear some memory.

MacRumor notes that Apple "wants to make the app an activity tracking option" that is available for even those that do not own an Apple Watch. With the help of the iOS 16, users will still be able to track their activity through the iPhone motion sensors.

iOS 16 Update to Leverage iPhone's Motion Sensors

The reason behind the Cupertino giant deciding that users no longer need an Apple Watch to use the Fitness app is because of the iOS 16 update. The iOS 16 update will leverage the motion sensors within the iPhone to act as an alternative to the Apple Watch when it comes to track certain metrics.

iPhone users can use the new technology to help them track steps, and distance, and with the help of third-party workouts, give them an estimate regarding how many calories they have burned within the workout period.

Users can Use the Fitness App to Set Daily Goals

Users can also set a daily goal for themselves despite not having an Apple Watch available. This can be done by using the iPhone in order for users to track their progress and show them how they are doing when it comes to their health and fitness goals.

The updated version of the Fitness app is reportedly useful for those users that don't own an Apple Watch or other activity trackers but still want to make themselves more active.

The Fitness app on iOS looks similar to the same app being used on the Apple Watch. The only difference is that iOS users won't have access to the Fitness+ tab since it is only exclusive to Apple Watch users.
