New ‘Crash Bandicoot’ Game to Be Announced at Summer Game Fest?

Crash Bandicoot fans, a new game may finally be coming your way soon.

In the latest Windows Central podcast, journalist Jez Corden said that a new Crash Bandicoot brawler game for multi-players, up to four players, may be revealed by Toys for Bob. "New crash? I wonder where you got that information from? I wasn't supposed to leak that."

He continued, "I think we could see a new Crash Bandicoot, and not only it is gonna be a new Crash Bandicoot, it's gonna be a multiplayer Crash Bandicoot... it's like a four-player brawler almost, but Crash oriented."

It is also said that the announcement will be showcased at the Summer Game Fest, which will begin on June 9.

It's been almost two years since the release of Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time. However, the state of the franchise has been in question, especially when Activision announced that developer Toys for Bob took on some support work for the Call of Duty franchise.

It looked like the developer has its hands full, which led many to believe that a new Crash game took the backseat. However, if the new Crash Bandicoot game is coming, then that might not be the case.

Over the last 26 years, the Crash Bandicoot series has created a huge fanbase ever since its launch on PlayStation in 1996. Originally, Crash was made to compete with Nintendo's Mario and Sega's Sonic. However, things changed a few years after that when the former owner Universal Interactive decided to make Crash games on all platforms.

Activision picked up the pace and continued the trend with Crash Bandicoot 4, which was released on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Not the First Rumor To Come Out

This isn't the first time a hint of a new Crash Bandicoot game was "leaked." In 2020 shortly after the release of Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time, there were news already that Activision was already teasing a new entry in the series, which was discovered by Kevin Fagaragan through an easter egg.

In the game's first level, there's a TV screen that players can hit. When they do, the TV will show the logos for the first three games in the series, along with It's About Time. After getting 106 percent completion, a fifth logo briefly appears before disappearing.

It's undeniable that Activision has a lot of faith in Crash Bandicoot, so it wouldn't be surprising if they're working on a new game already. With its strong fanbase, it could likely be a hit again.

However, until something concrete is announced by the publisher, don't get your hopes up yet! Toys for Bob really went out of its way to make teasers difficult to find, though, which means that something may really be up.
