Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is being delayed over and over again. The remake was announced in 2020 since then, the remake project has been delayed several times.
As of May 2022, the game swapped developers, which has led to speculations that it was canceled entirely.
The good news? Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake isn't cancelled. And the (a bit of) bad news? It's delayed again.
A statement from Ubisoft reads, "The development of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake will now be led by Ubisoft Montreal. We're proud of the work achieved by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, and Ubisoft Montreal will benefit from their learnings as the new team will continue the work to deliver a great remake. As a consequence, we are no longer targeting a FY23 release anymore and the game has been delisted."
It may also be possible that Ubisoft Montreal has gotten a bigger disaster than originally anticipated, which could mean that the studios may have taken more than they could handle. There was also news that the studios struggled with adapting the AnvilNext 2.0 engine for a more linear and confined experienced, and lacked people who are familiar with it.
Pandemic-related issues may also cause these delays, but it's clear that the developers are working on the game.
The Delistment
At the request of Ubisoft, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake has been delisted. This is brought about by the change of developers.
Back in May, Ubisoft also said, "This decision is an important step and the team, building upon the work achieved by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, will now take the time they need to regroup on the scope of the game to deliver you the best experience for this remake of an all-time classic, when it's ready."
With these latest developments, there is no definitive release date for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake. However, there is news that it will be at least released after April 2023.
The Delays
As mentioned, this isn't the first time the game has been delayed. It was delayed at the end of 2020 when the developers pushed the release date back to March 18, 2021.
However, these dates disappeared when the next delay happened, and that was indefinite. The updates that were released shortly after that only indicated that the game wouldn't be at big Ubisoft events and that it was still in development.
The Sands of Time is supposed to be a remastering of the game that is built off the AnvilNext engine.
With this, players who wish to cancel their pre-order can contact their retailer. Furthermore, players will be updated on the project regarding its development.
