Square Enix fans might have been wondering when the next "Final Fantasy" game will come out. Luckily, the "Final Fantasy XVI" trailer has just dropped, and it seems like the gameplay trailer makes it look like the game is set to launch in the summer of 2023.

Square Enix is Releasing 'FFXVI' as a PS5 Exclusive

Up until today, it's hard to picture Square Enix without imagining "Final Fantasy," and although the game still has other titles, older fans might have known its "FF" series to be the titles that really stick to the brand.

According to the story by Engadget, the upcoming "FFXVI" is expected to launch on the PS5. The trailer itself shows a PlayStation logo confirming its exclusivity to the new console.

Potential Release Window for New Game During the Summer of 2023

As per the game's trailer, the upcoming "Final Fantasy XVI" release date could happen during the summer of 2023. The game's trailer is reportedly a gameplay trailer that shows players and fans the massive monsters known as Eikons as well as the Dominant humans that have inhabited them.

Nothing short of what fans would expect, the game is reportedly going to be set in a medieval-inspired world with chaotic and cinematic battle scenes. The word that Square Enix was working on the "FFXVI" game was officially revealed back two years ago, in September of 2020.

'Final Fantasy XVI' Gameplay Trailer Revealed

During this time, developers said that they would be providing fans with more news regarding the game's development at the end of the following year. In December of 2021, however, the development team cited COVID-19 as the reason why they were about six months behind their target schedule.

Finally, after a long year and a half, the "Final Fantasy XVI" trailer has dropped. It is important to note that this is a gameplay trailer which means there could still be an official trailer that might drop sometime in the future.

Director of 'FFXVI' Says Game is Playable But Needs Brush-Ups

As per Hiroshi Takai, the director of 'FFXVI,' in a statement on the PlayStation Blog, the team's latest trailer shows a number of new Eikons and gives more details regarding their action-packed battle system and how it gives players freedom.

It was said that when it comes to the development process, the game is finally fully playable from the start to the end. There are, however, a few things that need to be tackled before they can release the game to the public, including optimization and brush-up.

So far, Square Enix remains on track with the development timeline of the "FFXVI" and aims to officially release the game in the summer of 2023 as a PS5 exclusive.
