As per a news story by the New York Times, contract employees of Google Maps reportedly circulated a petition to continue with the work from home setup, rather than being required to report to its Washington offices.
The news outlet noted that the return to work policy of Google includes roughly over 200 contract workers currently employed by Cognizant Technology Solutions, an outsourcing company.
The petition comes as these Google workers should start showing up in their offices five times a week come June 6.
So, it means that they would have to report to work from Monday to Friday instead of staying at home to do their responsibilities on Google Maps.
The New York Times highlights that the affected contract workers are responsible for making sure that both the destinations and routes on the navigation service of Google remain updated.
It should make sure that the over a billion Google Maps users enjoy its services with fewer hiccups, allowing them to travel to unfamiliar places with ease.
As of writing, about 60% of the total outsourced talents have already signed the petition.
