Harley-Davidson's production halt is expected to last for two weeks. The motorcycle manufacturer announced this decision after a third-party supplier informed it about issues with a component part.
The Milwaukee-based bike company confirmed that only gas-based motorcycles would experience the operation suspension when it comes to the affected models.
Its electric motorcycles, such as LiveWire, are a sub-brand of Harley-Davidson. But why are the company's e-bikes remain unaffected by the two-week production suspension?
Harley-Davidson Production Halt
According to Electrek's latest report, Harley-Davidson was informed by a third-party supplier on Tuesday, May 17. The motorcycle component manufacturer told H-D that the issue is specifically with regulatory compliance matters.
"This decision, taken out of an abundance of caution, is based on information provided by a third-party supplier to Harley-Davidson late on Tuesday (5/17) concerning a regulatory compliance matter relating to the supplier's component part," said the motorcycle developer.
H-D explained that the affected bike part is commonly used in gas-based models. Since LiveWire and other e-bike models, such as the H-D Serial 1, are all-electric, they rely on different component parts.
Instead of relying on third-party companies, Harley-Davidson is the one developing and manufacturing the parts of LiveWire and other all-electric models.
This allows H-D engineers to create in-house batteries and motors, which lessens the issues in regulatory compliance. If you want to see further details about the latest H-D motorcycle production suspension, you can visit this link.
Effects of Harley-Davidson's Production Halt
The latest Harley-Davidson production halt also affects gas-based motorcycle shipments. Aside from this, the manufacturer's shares also plunged by around 9%.
On the other hand, WHTM 27 reported that the two-week shutdown is also expected to cause some impacts on York County's residents.
Experts stated that the company's decision to pause its operations might affect York's local production plant. As of writing, the York Harley-Davidson production plant is expected to shift bikes and parts to cope with the supply issue.
Meanwhile, Newron Motors' wooden electric motorcycle is now available for pre-order.
On the other hand, BMW's intelligent emergency call system will enhance the company's motorcycles.
