It bared plans to set up its first-ever electric car-focused factory, which should be home to hundreds of thousands of various EV models in the long run.

Hyundai's First US EV Plant in Georgia

As per a news story by Tech Crunch, the South Korean carmaker announced its ambitious plans to open an EV-only factory in the state of Georgia, which another EV maker Rivian also plans to put up its plant.

Hyundai and Georgia have already forged a partnership, bringing in $6.5 billion worth of investment to put up a plant that primarily focuses on the production of EVs and their batteries.

Meanwhile, according to the latest report by Engadget, the upcoming Hyundai Georgia plant sits on a massive plot of land a few miles from Savannah.

The 2,923-acre plant of the South Korean carmaker looks to start its production in its first-ever EV factory in the US sometime in the first half of 2025.

On the other hand, Hyundai plans to kick off the construction of its plant in Georgia next year or in 2023.

Engadget further adds that the automaker seeks to produce around 300,000 EVs annually once its first US electric car facility starts running. It should also house a "wide range" of Hyundai vehicles, which its customers in the country should look forward to.

Georgia and EVs

Tech Crunch notes that Georgia has been aggressively attempting to attract more manufacturers to set up their plants.

In fact, it generously awarded the EV startup, Rivian, a whopping $1.5 billion incentive, which is the biggest ever that the state has given away.

On top of that, another South Korean firm, SK On, which manufactures lithium-ion batteries for EVs also plans to set up its facilities near the new plant of Hyundai. The $2.6 billion worth of factory should produce roughly 310,000 batteries once it kicks off.

As per the recent report by Savannah Morning News, Hyundai also sees the undisclosed incentive as one of the reasons why it chose to set up its first EV plant in the US in Georgia.
