Tesla's Service Manual Information Package is now completely free after the EV maker previously charged its users monthly or annual fees.
Whereas the price of the Diagnostic Software of the Elon Musk-owned electric vehicle (EV) maker actually got heftier than ever.
Tesla Service Manual Information Package
Tesla gives EV owners access to information for the service and repair of their cars through its Service and Repair Information Package, as per a news story by Teslarati.
It comprehensively includes a good ol' service manual and parts manual.
On top of that, it also comes with updated service bulletins, the whole tooling catalog, and the much-need wiring diagrams. Not to mention that it also houses labor codes and times.
Teslarati noted in its report that the giant EV maker of tech billionaire Elon Musk debuted its service manual subscription to its customers last Aug. 2021.
It comes as the right-to-repair discussions have become more and more, let's say, controversial or heated than ever.
Right before the Information Package arrived way back in 2020, the service manuals of Tesla retail for a hefty $100, giving its EV owners access to this essential info for an hour, according to a recent report by Electrek.
But there's been a loophole, Electrek highlighted then that all of these repair necessities, including the service manual, repair guides, and the diagnostic tools, have become free in a way.
Instead of going straight to the United States website of Tesla Service, users then have to visit the Chinese version of the site by creating another account pretending to be based in the Asian destination.
But this time, there's no need to go unofficial routes like that.
First, in 2021, Tesla already launched a subscription service for its repair info. Then, this 2022, the EV disruptor is officially giving it away without any charge at all.
Thanks to the prominent Tesla hacker who goes by the Twitter username "greentheonly," we have learned that the whole Service Manual Information Package is now free of charge.
The website of Tesla now lists the entire repair package with an annual price of $0.00.

Tesla Diagnostic Software Price
Although Tesla was generous enough to give away its service manual for free, it still charge EV owners for its Diagnostic Software Package.
The diagnostic software of the tech giant, which came on in the United States last year, now sells for $500 for a monthly subscription. But if users want to pay annually, it is to the tune of $3,000.
Teslarati notes that its price skyrocketed from $333 monthly and $2,000 annually.
