Russia's Peresvet laser, a defense weapon, was tested by the Russian government on Wednesday, May 18. Officials stated that they used the thermal beam was used in Ukraine to see if it could actually destroy drones.
Now, the latest test for Peresvet revealed that it is really capable of destroying enemy drones. And it can do this in a very efficient manner.
Russian President Vladimir Putin first unveiled the advanced laser weapon back in 2018.
He announced Peresvet together with other defense techs, such as a supersonic weapon, underwater nuclear drones, as well as a new intercontinental ballistic missile.
New Russia Peresvet Laser Test Shows Enormous Thermal Damage
According to PC Mag's latest report, the advanced Peresvet laser defense tech was used to burn up a drone.
During the activity, the thermal beam targeted a UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) five kilometers away.
Peresvet then dealt huge thermal damage output against the drone, destroying it in just five seconds.
Well, although this is not surprising for a country with advanced war weapons, the performance output made by the laser weapon is still astounding.
Moscow Prime Minister Yury Borisov said that the advanced defense tech could also target other flying objects that can affect Russia.
Even Satellites are Not Safe
Reuters reported that Peresvet could also target satellites. This mobile laser system is specifically designed to blind communication sats 1,500 kilometers above Earth.
"If Peresvet blinds, then the new generation of laser weapons lead to the physical destruction of the target - thermal destruction, they burn up," said Borisov.
During an interview, the Moscow prime minister was asked if the laser was already used in Ukraine. He confirmed that the first prototypes of the defense thermal beams were already tested in the country.
