WhatsApp is Testing Out Feature That Will Allow Users to Leave a Group Without a Trace

WhatsApp is reportedly exploring a new feature for people who want to leave their group silently. This means that no notification will pop up from other users regarding their exit from the messaging app.

The report was discovered by WABetaInfo, which is popular for its updates about the chatting platform. In the future, this update could come in Communities, as well.

Currently, your group members will be notified if ever you decide to leave the group. There will be some changes that will appear in the chatbox. WhatsApp looks forward to removing this feature so you can leave peacefully without any issues.

According to a report by Techradar, WhatsApp will soon let the users leave without tapping the rest of the members. It should be noted that only the group admins will know about your departure.

Moving forward, the messaging app will tackle these changes by tweaking the app's settings. Based on the article from Techradar, the screenshot shows that no one can detect your activity upon leaving the group.

Additionally, WABetaInfo reveals that the team is now testing this update on the desktop app of WhatsApp. In the future, we could expect that it will come on other platforms such as iOS and Android.

Why WhatsApp Wants to Roll Out this Update

Since toxicity is rampant among people, the messaging app wants to alleviate this feeling among the users. In this way, the privacy of the person will be respected as he/she moves parts ways with the group.

The source says that Communities will benefit from this feature in the future. There might be some changes wherein the user could exclude themselves from GCs (group chats) that they do not want to be part of.

Furthermore, it's also important to know that a user could have an option to hide their contacts from the public groups. Allowing them to display their username only will be ideal for those who want to stay private.

As for the community, harassment will also be avoided on top of extreme toxicity among the members. Indeed, it would be a great addition if WhatsApp would implement these updates for the public to safeguard their privacy and security at the same time.

WhatsApp Wants to Generate Rich Previews

In other news, Android Police reports that WaBetaInfo has another story about the popular messaging app. The WhatsApp team could be exploring how to generate rich previews for URLs to status updates.

Meanwhile, Tech Times reports that the ability to include polls on group chats will be a potential feature on the messaging platform. The update is expected to include a multi-device compatibility 2.0.

As of the moment, the feature is still in development.
