PlayStation’s ‘Salt And Sacrifice’ Prices Forced to Increase, Still No Official Announcement From Developers

PlayStation's Salt And Sacrifice has received a forced price increase for PS4 and PS5 in some regions. What happened?

Salt And Sacrifice was released on May 10, and eventually, its price was forced to match the local prices on the global Epic Games Store. Countries like Brazil saw a significant increase of 276 percent, while the UK saw a decrease.

Canada's price has increased from $21.99 to $26.99, while in Turkey, the game is available for pre-order for 33 Turkish Liras, but is now available for 153 Turkish Liras. India was hit hard well-from 450 Indian rupees to 1,331 Indian rupees.

The game developer, Shane Lynch told the community on the Discord server that "some prices were originally set much lower than Sony, and we're obligated to match prices on all platforms. I can't actually control individual country prices on Sony, so some of it had to go up or down. Sorry."

Indie developer Ska Studios spokesperson also responded to the force price matching in a statement to Eurogamer.

They said that the game's price was always intended to be the same on all storefronts at launch. However, its price hasn't changed on any storefront or in any region after the launch. What happened is that the prices were adjusted in various regions ahead of the game's global PC launch, which was last May 10, 2022.

"Developers Ska Studios and Devoured Studios apologize for any confusion regarding the price correction prior to Salt And Sacrifice's launch and as a two-person development team, remain focused on supporting the game following a successful launch," the spokesperson said.

A Deal Gone Wrong?

Sony made a deal with Salt And Sacrifice for an exclusive release on its console, but the catch is, Ska Studios can set the price individually for every country that is available on the Epic Games Store.

With that, the game is cheaper in some places than in others. However, this has been clarified by Lynch already.

Evidently, Ska Studios signed a deal with Sony, and it's apparent that they are not working with other storefronts or platforms for a better deal. However, some think that PlayStation should be the one to provide better regional pricing flexibility in its store.

A Bad Taste

The significant price changes may leave a bad taste in the mount of those who didn't pre-order the game, and gamers in general. Salt And Sacrifice looks pretty good, but their poor communication with fans may have compromised it. Moreover, there is still no official announcement about this.

A Quick Review

Despite the price hike in some countries, is Salt And Sacrifice worth it? Many gamers think that it's not so different from its 2016 predecessor, Salt And Sanctuary. The new Ska Studios game still carries its signature gloomy and grim flavor, but fans will be happy to see that there are improvements in the hand-drawn art and animations.

It also delivers a lot of playstyle customization through a wide variety of different weapons types. The combats are satisfying, deep, and impactful. Fans will enjoy exploring the zones as there are meaningful rewards tucked away.
