SpaceX Commercial Spacewalk Training Now Being Prepared; All-Private Polaris Dawn To Launch This 2022

SpaceX's commercial spacewalk training is about to happen this May. This Earth-based activity is a big deal for the upcoming all-private space mission called Polaris Dawn.

SpaceX will operate the new spaceflight on behalf of commercial astronaut Jared Isaacman, who is also the CEO of Shift4 4, an American payment processing company.

"Thanks @PanAquaDiving and instructors Peter and Sean... I'm feeling up to speed on SCUBA again and ready to rejoin w/ @PolarisProgram crew next week for training," announced Isaacman via his official Twitter post.

SpaceX Commercial Spacewalk Training

According to Interesting Engineering's latest report, SpaceX will start the Polaris Dawn spacewalk training once its other missions are completed.

The training will help Polaris Dawn's astronauts before they ride SpaceX's Dragon spacecraft.

Once the spaceflight is launched, the all-private space mission will reach an altitude three times higher than the position of the International Space Station.

On the other hand, the actual spacewalk is also expected to demonstrate the efficiency of SpaceX's spacesuit. Isaacman will be the first one to wear it once he walks outside the Dragon spacecraft.

As of writing, the independent space agency hasn't revealed the official design of its new spacesuit. But, some experts said that the suit is an upgraded version of the custom-fitted pressure garments model.

Why Polaris Dawn is a Big Deal

The new Polaris Dawn spaceflight will be the first out-of-this-world mission that will conduct a commercial spacewalk.

Aside from this, it will also conduct health impact studies, such as using ultrasound to monitor VGE (Venous Gas Emboli), gathering radiation data, as well as observations related to Spaceflight Associated Neuro-Ocular Syndrome (SANS).

On the other hand, there will be four crew members. These include the following:

  • Sarah Gillis (mission specialist)
  • Anna Menon (medical officer, mission specialist)
  • Scott Poteet (mission pilot)
  • Jared Isaacman (mission commander)

Previously, some Chinese military officials claimed that SpaceX Starlink could allow the U.S. to dominate cyberspace.

On the other hand, 53 SpaceX Starlink cube sats will be launched on May 13.
