Finland's plan to join NATO was announced during the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, putting more pressure on the Russian government.

Because of this, Inter RAO's subsidiary company, RAO Nordic, stated that they will stop sending electricity supplies to Finland starting on Saturday, May 14.

Russia Electricity Supply Support for Finland Suspended

According to Express UK's latest report, the Russian electricity supply suspension means that Finland will no longer receive imported electricity from Russia, both direct and bilateral sales.

However, RAO Nordic provided other issues that pressured them to conduct the electricity supply support halt. The energy firm said that the problem is with the payments from Finland.

RAO Nordic added that they haven't received any payment for the electricity they sold to the Scandanavian country since the start of May, as reported by the Moscow Times.

"RAO Nordic is not able to make payments for the imported electricity from Russia. This situation is exceptional and happened for the first time in over 20 years of our trading history," explained Inter RAO's subsidiary.

However, RAO Nordic said that they are still optimistic that the issue will soon be resolved.

No Payment From Finland Confirmed

The Finnish transmission system operator, Fingrid, confirmed that the pan-European power exchange firm, Nord Pool, did not make any payment since May 6.

Reima Paivinen, the Senior Vice President of Fingrid, clarified that they are only transferring connection from Russia to Finland.

He added that Nord Pool is the one responsible for paying Russia for the imported electricity supplies. For some Finland residents, the energy suspension is a big deal.

However, Paivinen clarified that the suspension will not lead to a mass electricity suspension. If you want to see further details about the new Russian electricity supply suspension in Finland, you can visit this link.
