A new update to the PlayStation Store profile for "Gotham Knights" has teased (or leaked) a rather interesting development ahead of the game's release later this year.
As reported by GameRant, the update now indicates that "Gotham Knights" will now support a 4-player co-op. This means that four people can now pick whichever of the Bat family's members they want to play as: Batgirl, Robin, Nightwing, and Red Hood, and play together in local co op. Or if you want to play as four Night Wings or Red Hoods, then you can do that too.
This is a major change from the original plans of developer WB Montreal. Originally, they said that "Gotham Knights" co-op is for two players only. And that's not even something they only mentioned in passing - it was part of the game's overall marketing.
Aside from that, WB Montreal also said that the game's combat system was designed for 2-player co-op, and not 4-player. But as per PCGamesN, it is possible that the development team used the time between the updated PlayStation Store profile and the first announcement of 2-player co-op to work out the kinks of allowing four players to team up.
There is also the possibility that the 4-player "Gotham Knights" co-op is not available for use within the game's open world, but could only be accessible outside the main game as a separate mode.
But since WB Montreal hasn't announced anything official, then this PlayStation Store update (which seems to have come from out of nowhere) is not a confirmation. The storefront does have a history of leaking out games or details about them ahead of their official reveals.
Last year, the game "Lost Judgment" from Sega was leaked on the PlayStation Store before it was officially revealed, as reported back then by Eurogamer. It was spotted by a Twitter user on the storefront for the PS5, but the tweet showing the listing was taken down as soon as word of it spread.
More Details About 'Gotham Knights'
"Gotham Knights" is an open-world action-adventure game set in a world where the Caped Crusader is already dead. In his stead, four other members of the Bat Family as previously shared - Batgirl, Robin, Nightwing, and Red Hood - are taking the fight to Gotham City's infamous criminal underworld.
With Batman dead, the Batcave is also gone. But the four playable characters will have their own HQ located at the Belfry, which used to serve as a school where Batman trained young superheroes, writes GamesRadar. It's basically a perfect fit considering the game's protagonists are all young people who were taken under the Bat's wing.
The game is scheduled to release on October 25th for both last-gen and current gen consoles, as well as PC. That means PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Windows users will have their crack at the game on equal footing.
