Ford F-150 Lightning model units are coming to the dealerships, but the automaker warned them not to sell them right away. Or else a hefty fine awaits them.
The first-ever all-electric pickup truck of Ford, which has been highly anticipated with nearly 200,000 pre-orders before its debut, has started shipping to its first few customers.
Ford F-150 Lightning Model Units on Dealers
That said, as per a news story by Teslarati, the giant American automaker recently sent a memo to its dealers across the United States, which revealed that it is releasing F-150 Lightning demo units to them.
The memo specifically told Ford dealerships that the American carmaker could only give them one F-150 Lightning model unit.
Ford further said that it is up to the automaker - not the nationwide dealers, which demo unit specs and trims are coming to them by mid-May.
The memo said that Ford is now "implementing a new F-150 Lightning FCTP Mannequin program" in time with the launch of the all-new electric pickup.
To be precise about it, the new program gives Ford dealerships "one unit of F150 Lightning allocation ahead of customer order fulfillment."
Essentially, the Ford memo explained that a single demo unit of the Lightning pickup truck should further help its dealers to give their customers a first-hand experience of the new all-electric F-150.
Ford F-150 Lightning Demo Units Not For Sale Yet?
According to a recent report by Electrek, given that the all-new F-150 Lightning is extremely in-demand these days, Ford has already warned its dealers against selling their demo units right away.
It is worth noting that the American automaker has previously warned dealerships that it would take advantage of the strong demand for the all-electric pickup by jacking up its prices.
This time around, Ford told its dealers that selling their demo units right away comes with a hefty fine.
The carmaker told its dealers about it during its recent memo, saying that selling the demo units even before meeting all "in-service requirements" triggers an expensive fine to the tune of $25,000.
However, the fine would not be applied if the F-150 Lightning demo unit could be replaced with another one, at least within the span of 90 days.
