Snapchat is sued by a young user after she experienced online abuse when she was just 12. The complainant said that it all started when her so-called friend asked for NSWF images and videos.
Since the guy is one of her contacts on Snapchat, she trusted him. However, the man took advantage of her innocence.
Now that she is 16, the young woman decided to file a lawsuit against Snapchat since she believes that the application company didn't do anything to prevent her negative experience on the platform.

According to The Washington Post's latest report, the young woman requested anonymity because of what happened. On the other hand, her mother's name also remained anonymous because of privacy concerns.

Of course, Snapchat's guardian firm, Snap, defended the app.
"Whereas we can't touch upon energetic litigation, that is tragic, and we're glad the perpetrator has been caught and convicted," said Rachel Racusen, a Snap spokeswoman.
She added that there's nothing more important than the safety of their users. However, the lawsuit states the opposite.
In the complaint, the victim said that Snapchat is focusing mainly on its feature enhancements instead of making efforts to improve the platform's safety.

National Parent Group Calls Out Snapchat
Since online abuse is getting worst on the Snapchat platform, a national parent group, ParentsTogether, decided to call out the social media giant.
ParentsTogether's official website stated that around 100,000 parents signed a new petition, which demands the app to launch features that can identify abusive content on the platform.
They claimed that this is needed to be done since around 92% of Snapchat users are between the ages of 12 to 17.
The national parent group said that the platform needs to protect young users more efficiently, especially since online abuse, grooming, and exploitation are becoming more rampant.
Involved parents suggested that Snapchat use PhotoDNA to identify photos and videos that can harm children.
