Google Chrome remains to be the most used browser on the planet to date. Although we can't deny that it's very popular for every user, you should still be aware that your security is not guaranteed when using it.

Most importantly, the site that you visit might be sharing your personal data without your notice. This very instance can be alarming, especially with the rampant data privacy exploits on the internet.

To maintain security when using this browser on your mobile device or desktop, here are the tips that you need to follow to achieve that.

According to Komando, there are ten ways how to ensure that you're using the Chrome browser the right way. But, first, you need to make sure that you regularly update the software on your device.

To do that, open the app and go to your profile icon. From the right side, click the icon with three vertical dots. Go to the drop-down menu and choose About Google Chrome.

Start With 2FA

The tech site recommends that users do two-factor authentication (2FA), which is also known as two-step verification. In this way, a hacker who attempts to hack your Google account will first need to know your contact number to open the app.

To set it up, check the steps below:

  1. First, access myaccount.google.com.
  2. From the left panel, tap Security.
  3. Then, continue by choosing 2-Step Verification under Signing into Google
  4. Remove Unnecessary Extensions

Sometimes when we download a file, there's an extension that will be downloaded along with it. Although some extensions are helpful because they serve as shortcuts, they could steal your online details without your knowledge.

They can track your activity across the internet, and you need to delete them as soon as possible. To do that, go to the Chrome browser and search for the three-dot icon.

After that, head to the More Tools and choose Extensions. You can now begin removing all extensions that you don't need anymore.

Use a Good VPN

Nowadays, many people rely on VPNs to safeguard their privacy online. It's a good tool to use for those who want to hide their IP addresses from potential hackers.

Safety Check Tool

If you're worried about compromised passwords, maybe you should use a Safety Check tool from Google Chrome. This feature allows you to detect the harmful websites that you previously visited.

To use it, open the browser and choose Settings. On the left panel, select Privacy and Security. Next, tap Check Now under the Safety Check section.

Safe Browsing Settings

There are two settings to choose for Safe Browsing in Chrome. The first one is the standard protection which helps you track password breaches and dangerous extensions and sites. The next one is the enhanced protection which is an improved version of the standard protection.

At this point, the enhanced protection should be the one that you need to activate by accessing the Privacy and Security of the browser. Then, select Security and Enhanced Protection under Safe Browsing.

Other than that, Komando lists other ways to tighten your security when using the Chrome browser.

  • Turning on HTTPS-First mode.
  • Refraining from storing passwords in the browser.
  • Dodging unsafe websites.
  • Keeping in mind that Incognito Mode won't entirely protect you.

Meanwhile, XDA Developers reports that Google has unveiled a new Assistant-focused feature on Android. This update can allow users to alter their passwords with no hassle.
