"TikTok Pulse"

The popular short video-focused app TikTok will be providing a new opportunity for creators to earn money, with its plans to start sharing a cut of revenue with top creators whenever their videos play alongside ads.

TikTok is yet to offer a substantial way for creators to monetize their content. Hence, this program draws Youtube's model of paying creators and generates a significant payout from the platform.

This new program is called TikTok Pulse, which lets ads be specifically playing alongside "the top 4% of all videos" on the platform. TikTok announced this in a blog post on Wednesday.

Creators and Publishers who have at least 100,000 followers and trending videos will be eligible to receive a cut of TikTok's ad revenues. Additionally, the revenue is reported to be 50/50, confirmed by TikTok on TechCrunch.

"To help brands be on the pulse of entertainment and culture on TikTok, we're excited to introduce TikTok Pulse, a new contextual advertising solution that lets advertisers place their brand next to the top content in the For You Feed," the company wrote in their blog.

They also said that through this program, they are "focused on developing monetization solutions in available markets so that creators feel valued and rewarded on TikTok."

Connecting Brands and Creators

Besides compensating the popularity of content creators, TikTok also launched this feature to attract advertisers to the platform by enabling them to highlight their brand's content alongside the most popular videos on TikTok, which ultimately connects the brands and creators.

The company also assured that creator's content will undergo a process to determine "suitable" for advertisements.

Similar to YouTube, the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) lets creators earn ad revenue from the advertisements on their channel. This enables brands to reach videos with great traction and subscribers, but the platform has to ensure first that these videos adhere to their content policies.

Hence, there is assurance that advertisements are not placed on videos that amplify hate, discrimination, misinformation, and other misconducts.

TikTok said that Pulse will also be adhering to these principles.

"Our proprietary inventory filter ensures that TikTok Pulse ads are running adjacent to verified content with our highest level of brand suitability applied on the platform," the company said.

TikTok added that there will also be, "additional post-campaign measurement tools such as third-party brand suitability and viewability verification" which will give advertisers a transparency report to help them analyze and understand the effectiveness and marketability of their campaigns.

When will the Feature be Available?

The only existing monetization program that TikTok is offering now is their "Creator Fund", where few selected users who gained large traction of their videos are eligible for payout.

TikTok hopes that their new program Pulse, will provide a sustainable revenue stream for creators. The launch of this feature is expected to roll in June 2022, according to Tech Crunch.
