PS5 Stock Shortage Will Continue Until 2024, Intel CEO Warns

PS5 restocks are everywhere, but that does not mean that you should relax for a while since shortages are imminent until the next few years.

According to Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger, the semiconductor issue will persist until 2024. That only means that all of the chip-dependent products will be affected in the long run.

As Tom's Guide spotted via a CNBC interview, Gelsinger expects that the timeline for the global chip shortage will be extended until 2024. This alarming update is bad news for chip manufacturers who have been battling the shortage since the pandemic erupted in 2020.

"That's part of the reason that we believe the overall semiconductor shortage will now drift into 2024, from our earlier estimates in 2023, just because the shortages have now hit equipment and some of those factory ramps will be more challenged," Gelsinger mentioned.

Back in 2021, Gelsinger made a bold prediction about this semiconductor problem. The Intel CEO said that it will continue to take place until 2023, according to Tech Times.

However, it appears that this issue won't just go away easily as he admits that the companies will not be able to meet the demand for its supply for the years to come.

Forrester's VP Researcher Director Glen O'Donnell also laid out a similar assumption regarding this chip shortage. According to the expert, the scarcity of processors will kick off through 2022 until 2023.

In contrast, AMD CEO Lisa Su has a different take on this. She said that there would be a supply increase during the second half of 2022. At this point, many buyers can now obtain consoles, and there will be no more problems when it comes to supplies.

However, it appears that it won't be settling down sooner, even though Microsoft is prioritizing paying the chips for its Xbox Series X stocks. Unfortunately, PS5 consoles are not yet ready for this.

Although there are timely drops in select retailers, the supplies sell out faster than expected.

PS5 Sales Continue to Drop

In another story from Techradar, Sony posted an impressive number of PS5 consoles sold last year. As of Dec. 31, the company managed to sell 17.3 million units.

However, the PS5 sales are now left behind PS4 sales, considering that it's a next-gen machine with packed features and competitive prices.

With the impending launch of PSVR 2, Sony is preparing for huge sales of its accessory. Upon its release, you can obtain this right away at $499.

Sony has marketed a lot of major video game titles this year, including "Horizon Forbidden West" and "Gran Turismo 7."

If the global chip shortage continues in the next few years, this could be a big challenge for the console maker. The dilemma between releasing more PS4 consoles and sticking to its plan of dropping PS5 in small waves might be in its book.
